Administrative Core Description

Administrative Core is responsible for the fiscal management of CCCR, the day to day operations; monitoring of research progress; integration and coordination of the different cores; encouraging, soliciting, and facilitating of CCCR research efforts; and the review of proposed and ongoing projects. Lead by Dr. Berger, the administrative core also provides advice and guidance to insure satisfactory progress and integration of the CCCR mentoring program.

The Administrative Core is directed by Dr. Frank Berger. Daily assistance is provided by Anjee Davis and Kendra McBride. The CCCR External Review Committee meets annually to assist Dr. Berger in reviewing the overall progress of CCCR, including its scientific projects, activities and overall effectiveness of the Cores and projects in accomplishing the goals set forth each year.

Anjee Davis joined the CCCR staff, March 22, 2005 after working for several years in clinical research in oncology. She has a bachelor's degree from Southwest Missouri State and a Master in Public Policy Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Mrs. Davis works closely with the Director to provide general oversight over CCCR financial reports and budgets while maintaining clear lines of communication across all levels of CCCR: the mentoring program, project labs, USC departments, core facilities and the community. Unique to most basic science facilities, Mrs. Davis has developed an outreach initiative within the Center to bridge basic science research to the community. She is responsible for developing collaborative relationships with both local and national organizations and community leaders. She oversees the strategic planning and the implementation of community based colorectal cancer initiative for the Center. Ultimately, supporting and assisting the carrying out of the vision and direction set forth by the CCCR director.

Mrs. Davis is a member of the South Carolina Cancer Alliance (SCCA). As a SCCA member. She chairs the messaging committee for the colorecal cancer workgroup and participates on the policy and advocacy taskforce.

Kendra McBride joined the Center in February 2007 as an administrative specialist, after working for the Ryan White Clinic serving those impacted by HIV and AIDS. Having experienced the devastation of colon cancer through losing her husband to this disease, Kendra has found working with the center an opportunity to support those in researching colon cancer.
