RESEARCH INTERESTS
Our research group is interested in the rational design of anti-cancer chemotherapeutics, focusing our studies on enzymes involved in regulating the structure of chromatin (Figure 1). In response to stimuli, nucleosomal histones are variably phosphorylated, ubiquitinated, methylated, and/or acetylated and these covalent marks are thought to help specify regions of chromatin that are transcriptionally competent (open) or transcriptionally repressive (closed). Specifically, we are interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of a number of histone acetyltransferases, methyltransferases, and arginine deiminases.
