The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority (PEBA) has awarded its 80% by 2018 National Achievement Award from the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable (NCCRT) to the CCCR, to advance work being done to eliminate colorectal cancer as a major public health problem. The amount of the award is $1,000.
PEBA was nominated for this award by Ms. Gailya Walter and Dr. Frank Berger for work aimed at reducing the incidence of colorectal cancer in South Carolina. As of January 1, 2016, PEBA waived all financial barriers to colorectal cancer screening in an effort to increase screening rates among its 128,000 eligible members. This included out-of-pocket costs for both screening and diagnostic colonoscopies, as well as fees associated with the consultation, prep kit, procedure, and anesthesia.
We congratulate PEBA on the national recognition of its efforts in the cause of reducing the toll of colorectal cancer. In addition, we greatly appreciate PEBA's donation to the CCCR.
